Automatic Implantable Defibrillators

An Implantable Defibrillator is an electrical device, approximately the size of a deck of cards, which is used to pace the heart and deliver electrical shocks to the heart to stop life-threatening irregular heart rhythms. The defibrillator is placed in the chest, much like a pacemaker, with one or more electrical leads to the heart.

Implantable defibrillator evaluation and monitoring is conducted at all Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists offices. Defibrillators are implanted at CJW Medical Center–Chippenham, Henrico Doctors' Hospital-Forest, Memorial Regional Medical Center, and St. Mary's Hospital.

Cardiac Pacemakers

A Cardiac Pacemaker is a small electrical device which helps the heart beat regularly, if the hearts natural pacemaker does not function properly. The pacemaker is placed under the skin in the chest, with several electrical leads extending to the heart.

Cardiac Pacemaker Evaluations are conducted at all of our offices.
