Exercise Testing

Exercise Testing involves recording an EKG while the patient is exercising - usually on a treadmill or stationery bicycle. Several types of exercise stress tests are available, including:

Treadmill Stress Testing:

During this non-invasive and painless procedure you will exercise on a treadmill or stationery bicycle, while an EKG monitors the electrical activity in your heart.

Treadmill Stress Testing is conducted at the following VCS offices: Boulders VI, Hanover Medical Park, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital-Forest, Hopewell, and Reynolds Crossing.

Nuclear Stress Test:

Similar to the Treadmill Stress Test, this test also monitors blood supply to your heart muscle. During maximal exercise, thallium (a non-radioactive contrast media) is injected intravenously. Specialized photographs of your heart are taken at the beginning and at the end of the testing period.

Thallium Stress Tests are performed at the following VCS offices: Boulders VI, Hanover Medical Park, Hopewell, and Reynolds Crossing.

Muga Testing:

Used to determine heart function, this test involves injecting a radionuclide substance into the bloodstream while specialized photographs of the heart are taken during exercise and at rest.

Muga Testing is conducted at the following VCS offices: Boulders VI, Hanover Medical Park, Hopewell, and Reynolds Crossing.
